Renting a home in India has never been easy, more so if you’re single. And it’s this very pain point—the trust deficit—that got these four alumni of the National Institute of Technology Karnataka, Surathkal, to start NestAway in 2015. “We experienced the problem at first hand,” says Sahu (second from left). The Bengaluru-based startup’s business is a blend of online brokerage and property management. “We not only help you find a home but also help you manage your home,” says Sahu. “Think of us as a residential asset management company.” To date, NestAway, which has operations across 13 cities in the country, has raised $94.2 million in venture capital and counts Ratan Tata, Goldman Sachs, and Tiger Global as investors. “At the moment, more than $120 million in annualised rentals is processed through our network,” says Sahu. Despite growing competition in the home rental space, Sahu adds, “We are the market leader by far.”
