He believes tea has all the characteristics to be the next single malt. Kausshal Dugarr seems to have read the tea leaves right: His tea leaf-delivery company, Teabox, saw a 300% jump in sales last year, giving him the confidence to expand and open physical stores. Dugarr says demand for his products isn’t limited to India; Teabox ships to 115 countries. The company raised $7 million from venture capitalists recently, which Dugarr says could rise to $10 million. This would help him set up “experiential tea stores” in India. “We want to give people the touch and feel aspect of our product,” says Dugarr. The company is expected to open stores at airport terminals and Mumbai and Bengaluru. It will also launch a sister brand called Only Leaf to cater to customers of affordable green tea.
