Apple’s new iPhones fail to cheer investors; stock falls 2%

Apple launched iPhone 15 series, Apple Watch Ultra 2, and Apple Watch Series 9 on Tuesday, which failed to invoke a positive response from investors. The investors seemed to be a little disappointed as the iPhone maker did not deliver any blockbuster surprises at Wonderlust event.  

The share price of Apple ended 1.71% lower at $176.3 per share in overnight trade on Wall Street on Tuesday. The tech heavyweight opened a tad higher at $179.49 against the previous closing level of $179.36 and touched an intraday high and low of $180.13 and $174.82, respectively.

Apple shares have risen 14.6% in the last one year, while it rallied 41% in the calendar year 2023. It has delivered 17% return in the last six months, while it declined nearly 2% in a month.

Apple rolled out the latest series of phones, iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, which are designed with "aerospace-grade titanium" that makes them Apple’s lightest "Pro models" ever. The major features of "Pro models" are contoured edges, a customisable action button, more advanced 48MP main camera, nextgen portraits, and an all-new 5x Telephoto camera that comes exclusively on iPhone 15 Pro Max. 

The U.S.-based technology company also launched Apple Watch Ultra 2, Apple Watch Series 9, while it also announced an update to last year's Apple Watch Ultra. Apple Watch Series 9 comes loaded with powerful features including the new S9 SiP, double tap gesture, a brighter display, faster on-device Siri, and precision finding for the iPhone. Apple Watch Series 9 is powered by custom Apple silicon in the all-new S9 SiP, which Apple claims is its most powerful watch chip. 

iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max will be available in four new finishes, including black titanium, white titanium, blue titanium, and natural titanium. Pre-orders begin Friday, September 15, with availability beginning Friday, September 22.

In terms of price, iPhone 15 Pro starts at ₹1,34,900 in India and is available in 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB storage capacities, while iPhone 15 Pro Max starts at ₹1,59,900 and comes in 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB storage capacities.

Meanwhile, The new Apple Watch lineup can be ordered starting today in India, with availability beginning Friday, September 22. Apple Watch Series 9 starts at ₹41,900, and Apple Watch SE starts at ₹29,900. In case and band combinations, Apple Watch customers can select combinations of Apple Watch Series 9, Apple Watch Ultra 2, and Apple Watch SE. 

Among others, Apple also launched AirPods Pro (2nd generation) with MagSafe Charging (USB-C) at the  Wonderlust event. The 2023 AirPods are upgraded with a USB-C charger, additional dust resistance and Lossless Audio with Apple Vision Pro. The AirPods Pro (2nd generation) with MagSafe Charging Case (USB-C) will be available at a starting price of ₹24,900 in India and more than 30 countries starting September 22. Meanwhile, the Apple EarPods (USB-C) will be available at a starting price of ₹2,000 in India and 30 other countries with effect from September 12.
