Ratan’s humility, generosity & purpose will continue to inspire future generations: Simone Tata

Following the news of Ratan Tata's passing, tributes began pouring in from his loved ones, close associates, and leaders from the industry and political spheres. In an official statement, Simone Tata, the stepmother of India’s titan, wrote that “While he is no longer with us in person, his legacy of humility, generosity and purpose will continue to inspire future generations,” in a joint family statement.

“We, his brothers, sisters and family, take solace and comfort in the outpouring of love and respect from all who admired him,” the statement from Tata’s family members including Jimmy, Noel, and Aloo Tata among others said.

“During this time of grief, we request privacy as we come together to honour his memory,” the statement added.

“It is with deep sadness and (with) a heavy heart that we inform you of the demise of our beloved Chairman, Ratan N Tata, a legend of our times who passed away on October 9, 2024. While we will miss his physical presence, he will always live in our hearts & minds. We rededicate ourselves to carrying forward his legacy & that of the Founders, which is rooted in India's civilisational values and strives for the welfare of all,” said Sidharth Sharma, CEO, of Tata Trusts in an official letter.

Sharma was appointed CEO of Tata Trusts in 2023, succeeding N Srinath. Before this role, he oversaw the sustainability portfolio at Tata Sons, the principal investment holding arm of the Tata Group.

Just days before his passing, Ratan Tata, 86, had reassured the public that there was no cause for concern regarding his health after being hospitalised for age-related ailments.

“I am aware of recent rumours circulating regarding my health and want to assure everyone that these claims are unfounded,” Tata had posted on his social media handle on X. “I am currently undergoing medical check-ups due to my age and related medical conditions,” the October 7 post added.

Tata appeared to be in stable health until Friday. However, he experienced sinking spells on Saturday but showed signs of recovery by Sunday morning. Unfortunately, his condition worsened just after midnight, leading to his admission to a hospital, about 20 minutes from his Colaba residence.
