Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant's wedding festivities commenced with the traditional Gujarati 'Mameru' ceremony on Wednesday at the Ambani residence, Antilia. This ceremony is a pre-wedding tradition in Gujarati culture, involving the bride's maternal uncle presenting her with sweets and gifts. The event took place separately at the bride’s home, featuring a host of family members.
From the groom's side, Nita Ambani's mother Purnima Dalal, her sister Mamta Dalal, and other close relatives gathered to bless the couple. The gifts included a Panetar saree, jewelry, ivory or white bangles, and a variety of sweets and dry fruits arranged in ornate trays.
Reliance shared a post on X, “Mosalu is a traditional ceremony celebrated in Gujarati culture a few days before the actual wedding. In Mosalu, the groom’s mother’s family, in this case members from Nita Ambani’s side of the family, led by her mother Smt. Purnima Dalal and her sister Ms. Mamta Dalal, came to the residence to bless the couple along with gifts and offerings. The groom’s maternal uncles and family presented the bride & groom with a traditional set of gifts known as ‘Mameru.’"
The opulent wedding will unfold at Mumbai’s Jio World Convention Centre in the bustling Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC). Adding a flavorful touch, Varanasi’s renowned Kashi Chaat Bhandaar will grace the celebrations, tantalising guests with its beloved local delicacies. Prior to the grand affair, Nita Ambani journeyed to Varanasi, seeking blessings at the revered Kashi Vishwanath Temple. During her visit, she extended a special invitation to Rakesh Keshari, the esteemed owner of the chaat stall, ensuring that his delectable treats will enchant and satisfy the guests.
“In a way Mosalu and Mameru reflect the respect given to and involving the larger family in wedding festivities. These occasions highlight the importance of the wedding for the extended family and becomes an occasion for them to celebrate together. Smt. Nita Ambani’s family were present in large numbers for the ceremony,” it added.
Radhika dazzled in an exquisite embroidered lehenga, complemented by jhumkas, a maang-teeka, and a shimmering necklace. Beside her, Anant radiated joy. Antilia, adorned with vibrant red, pink, and orange flowers, and illuminated by golden lights, created a captivating backdrop making the Mameru ceremony magical.
