In one of the biggest overhauls to Twitter, the company’s owner and Tesla CEO Elon Musk has decided to shed its 'Twitter bird' identity and do away with the logo. He says Twitter's logo will change to “X” from its iconic 'Blue bird' symbol.

“And soon we shall bid adieu to the Twitter brand and, gradually, all the birds. If a good enough X logo is posted tonight, we’ll make go live worldwide tomorrow,” Musk says in a tweet.

He later posted a series of tweets, asking users to suggest on a new brand logo and new terminology as per its new identity. "Now that “Twitter” will be known as “X”. What should we call “Tweeting”?" he asks. He also sought suggestions on the new ‘X’ logo, saying "If a good enough X logo is posted tonight, we’ll make go live worldwide tomorrow."

"X.com now points to twitter.com. Interim X logo goes live later today," he added.

After its $44-billion buyout last year in October, Musk merged Twitter with newly-formed X Corp, so the platform getting 'X' identity is part of his plans to make it an app that can do "everything".

Twitter CEO Linda Yaccarino says it’s an “exceptionally rare thing” – in life or in business – that you get a second chance to make another big impression. "Twitter made one massive impression and changed the way we communicate. Now, X will go further, transforming the global town square," she adds.

Yaccarino, who was appointed Twitter CEO in April 2023, says X is the future state of unlimited interactivity – centered in audio, video, messaging, payments/banking – creating a global marketplace for ideas, goods, services, and opportunities. "Powered by AI, X will connect us all in ways we’re just beginning to imagine," she adds.

For years, fans and critics alike have pushed Twitter to dream bigger, to innovate faster, and to fulfill our great potential, she says, adding that "X will do that and more". "We’ve already started to see X take shape over the past 8 months through our rapid feature launches, but we’re just getting started."

Yaccarino says there’s absolutely "no limit" to the transformation, and they are aiming at building a platform that can deliver "everything". "X will be the platform that can deliver, well….everything. @elonmusk and I are looking forward to working with our teams and every single one of our partners to bring X to the world."

Musk and Yaccarino may be working on changing Twitter's identity since her joining in April as the billionaire at that time had said they'll transform the platform into an everything app. "Looking forward to working with Linda to transform this platform into X, the everything app".

After his buyout of Twitter last year, he had said the company will eventually be transformed into 'X', the "everything app". He also posted a picture on Twitter on Sunday, confirming his love for the letter 'X'. "Not sure what subtle clues gave it way, but I like the letter X," shows the picture with Musk making an 'X' gesture with his hands.

Since its buyout, the microblogging platform has gone through enormous changes. From Twitter's' Blue', 'gold', and 'silver' ticks to opposing censorship and reinstating some high-profile accounts to laying off over half of the company, Musk has consistently changed Twitter while ensuring its daily user number continues to grow.
