Microsoft co-founder and former CEO Bill Gates, who is currently on a journey through India, was seen capturing the essence of the local Indian culture. A viral video from his visit showcases mega billionaire immersing himself in the simplicity of Indian life, savouring a cup of chai. The reel, shared on Instagram, received a staggering 20 million views, 1.5 million likes, and a multitude of comments.
In the video, Gates orders "one chai please" from Dolly Chaiwala, a social media personality who runs ‘dolly_ki_tapri_nagpur’ page on Instagram. The accompanying text highlights the innovation found even in the preparation of a simple cup of tea, with Gates expressing his excitement about being back in India and appreciating the ingenuity of the local community.
“In India, you can find innovation everywhere you turn—even in the preparation of a simple cup of tea!” the text under the video reads.
“Looking forward to many chai pe charcha,” the video ends.
During his visit, Gates explored Microsoft's India Development Centre (IDC) in Hyderabad, a realisation of his visionary outlook from 1998. The centre, celebrating its 25th year, played a pivotal role in shaping world-class products. Additionally, Gates extended his visit to Bhubaneswar, where he went to a slum area, interacted with residents, and explored the Biju Adarsh Colony in Maa Mangla Basti.
To this reel, Swiggy responded, "how much was the bill 🤭"
While another commented,"Luckiest guy on the earth 🥺❤️"
In an earlier post on February 26, Gates shared a reel with a text, “I’m in India this week to experience what I believe is its greatest gift: its ability to innovate.”
The Gate's visit echoes his previous experiences in India, where he met with PM Narendra Modi, interacted with YouTuber Prajakta Koli, and even took a memorable ride on an electric scooter.
In his recent blog post, the Microsoft co-founder praised India for its significant strides in breakthrough innovations and highlighted the country's pivotal role in saving and improving lives globally. He acknowledged the Gates Foundation's partnership in several initiatives and expressed his eagerness to explore ongoing collaborations during his visit.
Gates commended India's substantial contributions to the health sector, noting its position as the world's largest producer of vaccines. India's supply of over 60% of vaccines distributed by Gavi, an organisation facilitating vaccinations for over a billion children in lower-income countries, showcases the country's immense impact on global health, he wrote.
Further, Gates applauded India's innovative prowess in digital public infrastructure (DPI) and expressed anticipation about witnessing India's DPI in action during his trip.
While Gates has received an invitation to the extravagant three-day pre-wedding celebration of Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant, it remains to be seen whether he will attend the festivities.
