EIH Ltd, the owner of Oberoi and Trident hotels, plans to build two new hotels – one in Pune and another in London.
In Pune, the hotel chain plans to develop a mixed-use project comprising a Trident Hotel with around 175 keys (1.81 lakh sq. ft.) and a commercial development with office space and food and beverage-focused retail outlets (4.08 lakh sq. ft.). The total cost of the project is estimated at ₹972 crore and commercial operations are expected to commence in the first quarter of financial year 2029-30. EIH will acquire 51% stake in Muttha Towers II Private Ltd, which owns a parcel of land, for ₹254 crore.
The company also approved an investment of 15 million pounds to set up a hotel in the United Kingdom. The Oberoi, London hotel will have approximately 11 suites and 6 rooms and is expected to be operational by the fourth quarter of financial year 2027-28.
This comes close on the heels of a dispute over the will of late hotelier Prithvi Raj Singh Oberoi. The company is facing a legal challenge from Anastasia Oberoi, daughter of the late P.R.S. Oberoi.
Anastasia moved the Delhi High Court claiming rights in shares of the companies as per the will of the late Oberoi. The suit was filed by Anastasia and her mother against her step-brother, step-sister and cousin alleging that they were obstructing the execution of the will.
Vikramjit Oberoi, the managing director and CEO of EIH, the listed company of the Oberoi Group, and Arjun Oberoi, executive chairman of EIH, dispute this claim.
The Delhi High Court has restrained transfer of shares in EIH and EIH's holding companies Oberoi Hotels Private Ltd and Oberoi Properties Private Ltd. Justice Navin Chawla granted interim injunction in favour of late Oberoi's daughter. The court has also protected Anastasia and her mother's rights to their family home in Kapashera, Delhi, by restricting interference from other family members.
"The plaintiffs have made a strong prima facie case, and the balance of convenience lies in their favour," the court stated.
The Oberoi Group, founded in 1934, operates 32 hotels and 2 Nile Cruisers and is present in seven countries. The Group is also engaged in flight catering, airport restaurants, travel and tour services, car rentals, project management and corporate air charters.
