IN 2023, Reliance Retail bought 51% in Alia Bhatt’s kid and maternity-wear company Ed-a-Mamma. Bhatt, who founded the company in 2020, says the company is adding new sustainable products. This year, she co-authored her first children’s book–Ed Finds a Home. “We next plan to introduce toys, baby care products and an animation series. Our aim is to bring sustainability principles into every aspect of childhood and raise a generation of mini planeteers,” says Bhatt. Most recently, the company added a line of winter jackets made with sustainable fabrics. But sustainable products come with their own challenges, says Bhatt. “Innovating and developing sustainable products that meet both market requirements and environmental criteria is challenging. Also, operating in a price-sensitive market like India poses a challenge,” says the actor-entrepreneur.
In FY23, Ed-a-Mamma posted a revenue of $4.03 million, from $2.18 million in previous year. Net loss widened to $1.39 million compared to $896,066 in FY22.
