Last year, MCX was allowed to set up the country’s third national stock exchange, joining the BSE and NSE. Ramkrishna, operations head of NSE, is turning the heat up on competition. Last year, NSE introduced a new basic membership: Alpha, aimed at brokers who do proprietary trading for family and close associates. Alpha membership fees and annual fees are heavily subsidised. It takes on the cheaper membership plans from MCX and BSE. Ramkrishna was responsible for several interventions that brought down overhead costs, making NSE membership appear cheaper. A perfectionist, Ramkrishna keeps her team on its toes even if they are doing just routine work.
