In a move that underlines Kapoor’s derring-do, Balaji Telefilms launched a videoon- demand platform called ALTBalaji in April. It streams content made exclusively for the platform. On-demand subscription is at a nascent stage in India, and the space is dominated by Hotstar, Amazon, and Netflix. Kapoor plans to invest Rs 400 crore—nearly a year’s revenue—in ALTBalaji. It may be risky, but she’s attracted some big names. Reliance Industries has taken a 24.9% stake in Balaji Telefilms.
