AS A WOMAN entrepreneur, I am often told that I am a rebel, outspoken and focus too much on myself. But this is normalising the concept of entrepreneurs for the next generation, especially women entrepreneurs. Now, I consider them to be compliments.” Ghazal Alagh often shares such mantras, productivity tips and anecdotes on her social media handles. She has kept the company ahead of the curve in a crowded personal care market by launching products derived from Indian ingredients such as turmeric and onion. Honasa reached a milestone last year when it got publicly listed. Besides developing brands such as Mamaearth, The Derma Co., Ayuga and Aqualogica, Honasa has also acquired hair care brand BBlunt and skincare brand Dr. Sheth’s. According to stock exchange filings, new offerings contributed 18% to revenue in FY24. Revenue rose 29% to ₹1,920 crore while net profit rose to ₹111 crore compared to a loss of ₹151 crore in FY23. Recently, Honasa acquired Cosmogenesis Laboratories, a research company that develops natural and organic formulations for cosmetic and personal care brands. This will strengthen Honasa’s R&D capabilities, says Ghazal.
