As group CEO and managing director director of Eros International from 2009 to early this year Deshpande was already a name to reckon with in the media industry. And since her ascension to the post of head of media and entertainment business, and president of the chairman’s office at RIL in April, her clout has increased. She was one of the architects of the deal in which RIL picked u a 5% stake in Eros to acquire content for Jio. Under her leadership, Eros Now’s digital subscribers grew 276% to 7.9 million in FY18 from a year ago. She helped the firm raise $100 million in equity-linked finance to refinance existing debt without any default. Deshpande is leading RIL’s media initiative to organically build and grow businesses around the content and distribution ecosystem and integrate RIL’s media investments.
