Two months ago, Sanyal was invited to become a member of the International Council on Women’s Business Leadership, a global body chaired by the U.S. Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton. The council focusses on economic empowerment of women. Sanyal has spent many years working for financial inclusion and sustainability, and RBS, which she heads in India, has similar objectives. In fact, she once said the bank has a “good heart”. Sanyal continues such work outside the bank as well, as chairperson of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry. She even contested in the Lok Sabha elections; although she lost, she wants to further her interest in public policy and governance. She is also on TERI’s Business Sustainability Council.
