Pallavi Shroff, who took over as managing partner of Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas & Co in 2015, has been facing the rough and tumble of Indian courtrooms for about four decades now. After graduating in Economics from Delhi University, MBA from Jamnalal Bajaj Institute Of Management Studies and LL.B from Government Law College in Mumbai, Shroff started off as a lawyer in early 1980s.
With expertise in dispute resolution, competition law and white collar crime, Shroff has led the firm’s growth into more than a hundred partner entity. She pursues her interest in professional growth of women lawyers by ensuring versatile work arrangements, flexible timings, women-centric events and mentoring.
Some of the key cases Shroff has handled in last couple of years include Sony-Zee merger and BharatPe boardroom battle involving former promoter. Shroff says the BharatPe experience gave her a perspective on workings of the start-up world.
Shroff has been appointed member of the BRICS Women’s Business Alliance (India Chapter) constituted by Government of India and has been a key member of the high-powered SVS Raghavan Committee, which has contributed to formulating the legal framework for the new Competition Law and a draft of the New Competition Act. She represents companies such as Nestle, General Electric, Havells, Vale Australia, Vodafone, BHEL and ONGC on vital matters.
