Sespite localised lockdowns and restrictions, the country's largest mortgage lender showed 181% year-on-year growth in disbursements in Q1 FY22. Renu Sud Karnad, managing director, HDFC Ltd., considers Covid-19 as one of the toughest phases in her career. "We could not go to work, our customers could not get to us, but, at the end of the year, we still had to show a reasonable growth, which we were successful in doing," says Karnad. "By July last year, we were close to 70-80% of the pre-pandemic business, and by September, we were right up there. July 2021 disbursements were the highest ever in a non-quarter end month." HDFC also saw an 8% y-o-y growth in total loan book, and 14% in individual loan book at the end of Q1FY22. As on June 30, 2021, its assets under management stood at ₹5,74,136 crore. In Q1FY22, it received 88% of loan applications via digital channels, higher than the pre-Covid era.­ — Avneet Kaur
