When she isn’t busy analysing companies to invest in, she’s buying works of art. Back at work, her stated goal is to “bring serious long-term capital from pension funds and endowments across the world to Indian enterprises and entrepreneurs that need it”. Having closed $405 million in October last year in a difficult market, Ramnath has managed to create that platform. She has deployed at least Rs 450 crore in four companies in the past year, which includes oilfield component maker Sara Sae, electricity trading platform Indian Energy Exchange, Cholamandalam Investment and Finance Company, and South Indian Bank. But since then, Ramnath hasn’t made any significant moves in raising more money or making her funds work.
