Kumar’s explorations in the past year took her to Bhutan, where she launched a collection inspired by the ethos of Bhutanese thangkas and prayer flags in Indian fabrics. It took Kumar three months to put the Bhutanese ensemble together but it was in her “consciousness for about two years”, she says. Kumar, who’s been designing collections for the international market for 35 years, says tapping undiscovered cultures in Asia’s design heritage keeps her inspired to create a contemporary, young label. Kumar added six new locations to the number of stores she retails through, taking the total up to 35.
