Roshni Nadar Malhotra,
Chairperson, HCL Technologiesage: 39
Nadar Malhotra, the only child of HCL’s billionaire founder Shiv Nadar, was appointed chairperson of
the $10-billion IT services company, HCL Technologies, in
July this year. She took charge of the Noida-based company—
which commands a market cap of over $30 billion—from
her father who started HCL in 1976. It wasn’t a sudden move
but a planned succession. Nadar Malhotra joined the IT
firm’s board in July 2013, and was named the vice chairperson in October 2018. Two months later, she was part of HCL
Tech’s largest acquisition till date, when it acquired certain
software products of tech giant IBM for $1.8 billion. In an
industry where companies clone each other’s offerings in no
time, Nadar Malhotra has a tough job at hand competing
with larger rivals TCS and Infosys. She is the first woman
chairperson of a top-tier Indian IT services company.
