Bhartia is the most influential woman in Indian media. The three big papers she owns, Hindustan Times, Hindustan, and Mint, reach out to over 13 million readers daily. She joined the business in her twenties and gradually rose to take it over from her father, the legendary K.K. Birla. Last year, she oversaw the restructuring of the group, and listed HT Media Ventures, which owns the Hindi newspapers and magazines. The industry saw it as a bold move, given that older media barons generally avoid the bourses. HT Media’s revenue stood at Rs 1,815 crore for the last financial year, up 25% from the previous one.
