After a massive churn at the top of the list, Daruwala has emerged as the highest ranking banker this year. She needs no introduction in the world of banking in India. After over two decades at ICICI Bank, she was appointed CEO of Standard Chartered Bank, India, in 2016. Ever since she took charge, Daruwala has been focussing on tackling the challenges of falling incomes, rising non-performing assets, and pushing retail and digital banking. Under her leadership, Standard Chartered Bank, India, turned the corner and posted a profit in 2017, after reporting losses in 2015 and 2016. Her focus on increasing the bank’s retail business and improving the earnings quality is reflected in the its CASA (current account savings account), which grew 15% in FY18, with a CASA ratio of 41% in March 2018.
