EVs a huge focus: 40u40 2024 Sudarshan Venu
TVS Motor managing director Sudarshan Venu says electrification has been a huge focus for the two-wheeler maker.
“The rate at which EVs are growing is very fast. Post the reduction of subsidies, there were some speed bumps but it has continued to grow steadily. In two-three years, we believe 20-25% of all vehicles will be electric and that’s something we are investing towards,” says Venu. 5% of TVS Motor’s global volumes came from EVs last year.
Different consumers have different expectations from EVs, says Venu. “There will be multiple price points in the market with different ranges, some for entry-level consumers who want it for a short commute, some who want to do deliveries and have higher range requirements. Motorcycle customers who may want to go for a sporty ride may want something with more power,” he explains.
“You will see more launches from us in the premium segment. We are looking at strengthening our product portfolio in this segment. This is where Norton comes in as well. Once we bought Norton, we restarted the company with strong engineering and design teams. We are commonising the supply chain for Norton. From next year, many of these products will come into the market,” says Venu.
