Video: Ex-Tata Sons chief Cyrus Mistry dies in road accident near Mumbai

Former chairman of Tata Group Cyrus Mistry died in a road accident in Maharashtra's Palghar district near Mumbai on Sunday. Mistry was travelling from Ahmedabad to Mumbai in a Mercedes car. The accident took place around 3:30 PM after the car lost balance while crossing a flyover on the Surya river on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway.

According to police, four people were in the car; two died on the spot, while two were rushed to hospital. Those who died on the site were identified as Cyrus Mistry and Jehangir Pandole. The other two persons travelling with Mistry -- Anahita Pandole and Darius Pandole -- were severely injured and immediately taken to a nearby hospital.

Anahita Pandole, a gynaecologist in Breach Candy hospital and Mistry's family friend, driving the car, say reports. Prima facie, it seems the driver lost control over the vehicle and rammed it into the road divider.

Born in 1968, Cyrus Pallonji Mistry was the sixth chairman of the group, and only the second not to bear the surname Tata. Mistry was the son of Pallonji Mistry, the patriarch of the Shapoorji Pallonji Group, the single largest shareholder of Tata Sons with an 18.4% stake in the company.
