3D printing technology was invented by U.S. engineer Charles Hull more than three decades ago, but it remained a relatively obscure industrial process. But not anymore. The technology is gradually changing lives, and disrupting sectors from aerospace, healthcare, to automobiles, and construction.

With companies working on 3D printed products prosthetic limbs, and car parts, it is being called the next industrial revolution. Some of the world’s biggest companies like GE, United Technologies, and Honeywell are busy making jet engines and parts using 3D printing. Associate editor Abhik Sen and deputy editor Ashish Gupta’s August cover story explores how constant innovation and developments in the field have made 3D printing a game changer which is disrupting industry and effecting lives in ways never thought of before.
