Meta, the parent company of Facebook has announced the launch of its advanced AI chatbot, Meta AI, in India, according to Meta’s statement today. “Built with Meta Llama 3, Meta AI is starting to roll out in India in English,” the tech giant says.

Earlier in April, Meta had upgraded Meta AI with the Llama 3 model, an AI assistant available in multiple countries, including the United States, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa, Uganda, and Zimbabwe. Meta AI was launched in September 2023 as a step in the social networking company's expansion into generative AI.

This AI assistant, integrated into various apps and services, offers a range of functionalities like answering queries, providing real-time information, generating text and images, aiding in writing tasks, and assisting in group chats. Meta AI, available in English across WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger, can also be accessed through Meta.ai's website.

If you're working on your computer and need help with a math problem or making an email more professional, users can visit meta.ai for assistance. In parallel, Google recently introduced its AI chatbot Gemini to India, supporting nine Indian languages, following the recent general elections.

Users can engage with Meta AI for various purposes, from trip recommendations to creating poems and stories, creating multiple choice tests. They can also access it while scrolling through Facebook Feed. "When they come across a post they're interested in, they can ask Meta AI for more information directly from the post. For example, if you see a photo of the northern lights in Iceland, you can ask Meta AI what time of year is best to check out the aurora borealis."

Meta had recently unveiled five new research models developed by its Fundamental AI Research team. These models cover image-to-text and text-to-music generation, multi-token prediction, and AI-generated speech detection. One notable release is the Chameleon model, which integrates both image and text processing capabilities simultaneously.
