Motorola has just launched the razr 40 ultra and razr 40 flip phones. With these devices and a starting price of ₹59,999 the company hopes to be the game changer that takes flippables to the masses.

Seasoned users of technology may know that it was Motorola who first came up with a flip phone, the StarTAC, in 1996. At the time mobile tech was still basic and there wasn't very much one could do but call and message. Flip phones were just clamshell phones - but the form factor was certainly one that early adopters liked. Later, Motorola launched the original razr in 2004.

Fast forward to the present time and one of the most exciting aspects of the razr ultra is that there are two screens, one of which is large enough to be usable and useful. The Motorola razr 40 ultra comes with the world's largest, fastest and highest-resolution resolution 3.6" external display on any flip phone with refresh rate of 144Hz. Of course, there aren't very many flip phones to begin with.

Of the two phones launched, the more advanced is the razr 40 ultra which runs on the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 mobile platform powering the largest external display of any flip phone This screen is a 3.6" pOLED which is fully capable of supporting multiple apps and functions even when it is closed, so users can view more at a glance and access content they want. Users can respond to messages, take a selfie, get directions, play games, listen to music on Spotify and watch YouTube on this external display. Also, this display has a very high 144Hz adaptive refresh rate making switching between apps and scrolling websites fast and easy. The peak brightness is 1100nits and Corning Gorilla Glass Victus protected.

When the Motorola razr 40 ultra smartphone flips open, it has a nearly creaseless and smooth display, with a 6.9" pOLED screen with the highest screen refresh rate of 165Hz and peak brightness of 1400nits. Motorola razr40, also comes with a similar display configuration with a refresh rate that peaks at 144Hz which makes it quite smooth too.

In terms of design, Motorola is offering a bit of nostalgia in a contemporary flexible design. The razr 40 Ultra folds completely in half with the top and bottom edges aligning perfectly for a gapless, thin and sleek look. Unlike other flip phones, the razr 40 ultra does not leave any visible crease on the screen because of its redesigned teardrop hinge. It also comes with the industry's first dual-axis tracking, which reduces the size of the device, thus making both the razr phones the World's Slimmest Flippable phone in the industry when flipped close. The design of the razr 40 ultra and razr 40 features a combination of a metal frame with vegan leather option on the back making it easy to grip and soft to touch.

The razr phones come with Flex View which offers new ways to interact, capture, and create. Users can angle the device to easily view content, video chat with friends, and more.

The Motorola razr 40 ultra comes with a 12MP main camera sensor using Instant Dual Pixel PDAF meant to be used in sensitive lighting conditions as well. There is also a 13MP ultrawide and macro vision lens that allows for wide-angle shots that fit 3X more into the frame than a standard lens. Users can also flip open razr 40 ultra and use the 32MP front camera for selfies and video calls or keep their hands free by folding the phone. Similarly, the Motorola razr 40 has the highest resolution sensor to ever be featured in any of Motorola's foldable smartphones. The device features a 64MP main camera with OIS, a 13MP Ultrawide + Macro Vision lens on the rear, and a 32 MP camera on the front.

For battery power, the razr 40 ultra has a 33W TurboPower charger in the box and supports wireless charging for a battery of 3800mAH, which is larger than the previous generation of razr while the motorla razr 40 comes equipped with a massive 4200mAH battery.

Both devices run on Android 13 and come with a promise of 3 OS upgrades and 4 years of security patches, with personalisation available as per needs and the Motorola interface such as the simple gestures, and custom entertainment settings are also available. Furthermore, the razr 40 ultra and razr 40 offer an extensive suite of security features, including ThinkShield, Moto Secure, and Moto KeySafe.
