The Reno 10 Pro+ 5G is the top ender in a series of Reno 10 phones recently launched in India. This time, the smartphone isn’t just a me-too offering but has a lot that makes it distinctive. At ₹54,999, it’s more expensive than it has been before, but it also offers more value.
Distinctive design
The Reno10 Pro+ emerges out of a substantially chunky box, made heavy by an enormous 100W charger that could do some damage if dropped on an unwary foot. The smartphone itself is very slim, despite being definitely in the large category, and is designed to be narrow enough to give the user a good grip over it. The two colours the device is available in are Silvery Grey and Glossy Purple and it’s the second that is the colour of our review unit. Whatever coating has been used on the glass back makes it resistant to fingerprints. One can get away with not using a case at all, although there’s a transparent back cover provided. Anyone with slippery hands might want to use it and be on the safe side.
The camera assembly on the back is in a capsule-shaped area that gives it an entirely distinctive look and adds in no small measure to make it look elegant and quite stylish without looking like a glitzy fashion accessory. The curve given to the glass, both front and back, is slight enough not to pose a problem with touch and again, adds to the premium look. The frame around the glass isn’t metal, as is typical with premium phones.
The camera portion sticks out a fair bit, unfortunately, so doesn’t sit flat on a surface. It should be safe enough, however. The back is protected by Gorilla Glass 5. There’s no official water and dust resistance rating.
This smartphone has the typical 6.7-inch display with 2,772 × 1,240 resolution and 120Hz refresh rate — though it doesn’t adapt to levels in between but moves in a step-wise fashion. The edges around the perfectly pleasant display are super thin and in any case, seem to roll off the screen because of the curved glass. Photographs and videos look really nice on this device because of this. The phone also has dual speakers that sound rather nice and shrill and tinny.
The Reno 10 Pro+ is powered by the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, which has been succeeded this year by the 8+ Gen 2. All the same, it’s a powerful processor, though there are phones in the same price bracket that offer the newer of the two. Performance is fast and smooth, though not the choice for gaming. The processor is paired with 12GB LPDDR5 RAM and 256GB storage. The fingerprint sensor is on the power button and there’s an IR blaster by way of extras.
The software is Android 13, with the ColorOS 13.1 interface. It has its share of bloatware, that is, unsolicited apps. The battery is 4700mAh and it charges really fast. Wireless charging is lacking, but charging is so rapid one might argue it’s redundant. Battery life is passable.
The camera setup on the Oppo Reno 10 Pro+ includes a 50MP primary with optical image stabilisation, an 8MP ultra-wide with a 112-degree field of view, and a 64MP telephoto lens with 3X optical zoom and beyond 100 software zoom. The front camera is a 32MP.
The images one gets from the main camera are realistic and pleasing and the phone’s post-processing isn’t too intrusive. The photos have good dynamic range, detail, and sharpness. The telephoto lens works well with portrait shots. Low-light shots are also generally good.
