Tech layoffs: Amazon, Meta may announce more job cuts this week

Amazon CEO Andy Jassy, in an email to employees, says it was a “difficult decision”, but it is best for the company long-term.
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg calls it a “tough decision” with no way around that. Social media firm to also not fill 5,000 open vacancies.
The majority of job cuts are in Amazon Stores and People, Experience, and Technology (PXT) organisations, says Amazon CEO.
A week earlier, the government had summoned the ecommerce giant, which has as many as one lakh employees in India, for discussion regarding layoffs and subsequent layoffs.
The development comes at the heels of mass layoffs announced by the ecommerce giant last week. The company has 1,00,000 employees in India.

The company, however, has not confirmed the numbers of sacked employees.
