LIC shares opened at ₹867.20 on the BSE, down 8.6% from the upper end of the IPO price band of ₹902 to ₹949 per share.
LIC shares were selling at a premium of just ₹10 in the unregulated grey market amid weakness in the equity market, in line with global peers.
LIC has time till May 12 to float the LIC IPO, following which SEBI's approval to issue a public offer will cease.
