Less than a year after Chandrasekaran left Airtel for Snapdeal, he is critical to the latter’s plans for e-commerce domination. The company is bullish on its new payment product, FreeCharge Wallet, which Chandrasekaran helped launch in September. The wallet claims over 15 million active users, in a crowded space led by Paytm. Chandrasekaran, who spends a lot of time with his baby daughter, was also central to the launch of Snapdeal’s regional-language platforms, which will “bring the e-commerce revolution to millions of Internet users who are left out just because they don’t know English”. A former senior director of mobile products at Yahoo based out of California, Chandrasekaran doesn’t believe India lacks high-quality programmers who can build tomorrow’s products. “It is a leadership problem if programmers aren’t motivated to go beyond the routine stuff,” he says.
