In the world of startups, Meena Ganesh is a name that carries considerable heft. Her main focus now is scaling her healthcare startup, Portea Medical, to make it the “go-to brand for healthcare in India”. The five-year-old startup, spread across 16 cities, does over 120,000 home visits a month, offering services such as chronic disease management, post-operative care, cancer care, as well as geriatric and orthopaedic care. In the past year, she has built a critical care division offering complete hospital set-ups at the homes of critical care patients. She says the cost of services offered at home is about 30% cheaper than hospitals. Portea has raised venture capital funding of $72.5 million in three rounds so far. It is one of 14 startups under GrowthStory, one of India’s largest entrepreneurship platforms, which she co-founded with her husband, K. Ganesh. She, along with her husband, also mentors the founders of the other startups under GrowthStory.
