A chemical engineer by training, Pudumjee leads Thermax, an engineering services company with a market cap of over Rs 10,000 crore, catering to the energy and environment sectors. Due to a subdued economy, in FY14, the company’s turnover fell about 10% and profit after tax dropped 28%. But the order book improved 11% to Rs 5,394 crore as Thermax bagged an order worth Rs 1,700 crore last year from a petrochemical major. Pudumjee’s focus on green industries has won her accolades. She is also a connoisseur of Western classical music, works closely with underprivileged children, helps run three municipal schools in Pune, and sits on the board of Teach For India.
