IBM may be known for big-ticket deals across the world, but India head Narayanan often says publicly that “no deal is too small” for her. The company is keen to play an active part in financial inclusion and the government’s 100 smart cities programme. For Narayanan, a 25-year IBM veteran, the latter is particularly exciting. She is part of IBM’s Integration & Values Team—made up of senior global executives selected by IBM’s chairman—and a member of the National Council of CII. Narayanan’s team in India is large— more than a 100,000 people and estimated to be a fourth of IBM’s global workforce. But due to declining sales of storage systems and servers, around 15,000 job cuts may take place globally, including in India, Brazil, and Europe.
