What started as one woman’s passion for natural products is now an enterprise with 60 stores and 550 employees. The retail performance of the country’s best known luxury Ayurveda company, which runs the Forest Essentials brand, jumped by some 40% the past year. Kulkarni has added six new outlets in recent months. Sales at her stores might be up, but it’s her e-commerce business that is throwing up surprises with the average international online order worth Rs 18,000.
