Private equity veteran Ramnath says her strategy of diversification helped create a portfolio that bucked the downturn. It is balanced across 10 investments in different sectors, and she says that’s the reason for the gross investor return of 38% over a year and a half. The gross multiple of capital contributed (MOC) of the portfolio is 1.70. When Ramnath set up Multiples in 2009, she raised Rs 1,800 crore; today it has Rs 5,000 crore of assets under management. Fund I made a partial exit from its investments in PVR and South Indian Bank, and returned 15% of investor money prior to the fundclosing date. She is now raising Rs 3,200 crore for Fund II. Ramnath sits on the boards of Air India and Bharatiya Mahila Bank.
