Media is a cruel business, but Bhartia seems to have got it licked. In spite of a dip in its net profit (to Rs 165.49 crore in FY12 from Rs 180.91 crore in FY11), Bhartia continues to expand her business. She strengthened HT Media’s diversification into the education sector by entering an agreement with Apollo Global, the U.S.-based educational investment company, to provide industry relevant programmes across sectors and domains. The company also intends to set up a university in Uttarakhand. The higher education portal (htcampus.com) increased its visitor count five-fold in FY12. Bhartia also launched a newspaper HT Mini, a 24-page product half the size of a tabloid, aimed at travellers on Delhi’s Metro; two new editions of Hindustan, its Hindi daily, were also added last fiscal.
