Under bhandarkar, Credit Suisse has increased its share of business in India in 2011. That was one of her mandates when she was hired a year ago. The Swiss bank wanted to improve operations across mergers and acquisitions, capital markets (domestic and international), and financing (both private and public) transactions for Indian companies and global clients investing in India. Bhandarkar has steered the bank through some large transactions: the $1.2 billion sale of Patni Computer Systems to a consortium of iGate and Apax, Vedanta's $1.65 billion bond, and the Jaguar Land Rover £1 billion bond. Not that any of this would have been difficult for Bhandarkar, who comes with a legacy of marquee deals such as TCS’s public offering of $1.2 billion or the $2.6 billion NTT DoCoMo investment in Tata Teleservices. Credit Suisse is ranked third by Dealogic, an independent provider of international banking and trading data. A former investment banking head of J.P. Morgan India and an IIMA graduate, Bhandarkar considers Narayanan Vaghul, exchairperson of ICICI Bank, as one of her mentors.
