Pandey rose to prominence while helming international distribution of the erstwhile UTV’s major hits, including Chennai Express and Jodhaa Akbar. Following UTV’s acquisition by Disney, she filled the crucial worldwide marketing role. Her work with PK, the highest-earning Bollywood film to date, has become a template within and outside Disney: No Bollywood film has made more money overseas. Cracking the tough Chinese market was key. “People in china really identified with Aamir Khan and 3 Idiots. There were many fan clubs for Raju Hirani and Aamir. It took us a few months, but we cracked a deal [to distribute PK] in China,” says the dim sum lover. Pandey is counting down to a big year starting June. Disney India’s high-profile releases this year include Ranbir Kapoor-starrer Jagga Jasoos, Mohenjo Daro with Hrithik Roshan, and Dangal with Aamir Khan.
